Brussels, Belgium – 15 July 2025 – The Life Science Manufacturers Association (LSMA) has appointed John Clarke, Global Head of Government Affairs and Policy at Cytiva, a Danaher company, as the association’s inaugural President. The appointment was made during the new industry trade association’s first Board of Directors meeting on 10 June 2025

Mr Clarke brings extensive experience in shaping public policy and contributing to public health outcomes within the life sciences sector, making him a pivotal choice to represent the LSMA in its mission to strengthen policy participation of the industry that represents the value chain of the life sciences industry.

“I am honoured to be elected as the first President of the Life Science Manufacturers Association,” said John Clarke. “The establishment of LSMA marks a crucial step in ensuring that the voice of upstream manufacturers – those who provide the essential materials, consumables, machinery, tools, and services enabling life science innovation – becomes a central part of the policy dialogue. Our collective experience during the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the urgent need for a unified industry voice, and LSMA is poised to fill that gap.”

Under its new president, the LSMA will focus on:

  • Improving public health by supporting the development and manufacturing of life-saving medicines and vaccines.
  • Advocating for proportionate and science-based regulatory frameworks, with an initial focus on EU chemicals policy and the EU Biotech Act, to foster innovation and reduce unnecessary burdens.
  • Strengthening the European bioeconomy by promoting sustainable production and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Accelerating innovation and technology transfer to ensure Europe remains a global leader in biotechnology and biomanufacturing.
  • Enhancing industry resilience and competitiveness in a global landscape characterized by intense competition and geopolitical uncertainties.

The LSMA is committed to working closely with policymakers and stakeholders to foster a policy and regulatory environment that encourages innovation, resilience, and competitiveness in Life Sciences for the benefit of patients and public health.
